Follow-up sequence
A follow-up sequence is a pre-planned series of messages and touchpoints sent to a prospect over a defined period of time after the initial outreach message. The goal is to build familiarity, maintain momentum, and increase the chances of a response or conversion.
Follow-up sequences are used in outbound sales, email marketing, and lead nurturing to stay top-of-mind without being overly aggressive.
A typical follow-up sequence may consist of:
- Cold emails spaced over several days or weeks
- Social touches (e.g., a LinkedIn profile visit, comment, or message)
- Voicemails or phone calls
- Value-based content (e.g., case study, industry insight, resource link)
- A final ‘’breakup’’ email if there’s no response
